<< BackShimer Welcomes B David Galt
Shimer College is pleased to welcome B David Galt as the College’s new Associate Dean for Student Life. B David brings to the position over 20 years of diverse experience in student life including residence life, student development, campus programming, educational leadership, career resources, orientation, multicultural affairs, and service learning.
In this newly expanded position, B David will take the lead in creating an environment which allows students to take full advantage of the College's academic program and fosters personal growth outside of the classroom. He is responsible for activities related to student activities and programming, the quality of life committee, and career guidance and internship development.
“I believe that work in student affairs should strive to be rooted in the academic mission of the institution and that services and programs must support the ability of students to thrive and succeed,” he says. “I think this is especially important at an institution as unique in curriculum, size, and character as Shimer.”
B David has worked in a variety of educational environments - large, small, public, and private. His career in higher education has included positions at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Augsburg College, Normandale Community College, and Saint Leo University among others. B David has been committed to education since he received his undergraduate degree in education from Bemidji State University in Minnesota. He then went on to receive a Masters in Higher Education at Bowling Green State University. As B David points out, he graduated high school in a class of ten, so he recognizes and understands the benefits and challenges of a small academic community.
“I am very pleased to welcome B David to Shimer,” says David Shiner, Dean of the College says. “He has a rare passion for service to students, which as already impressed everyone who has met him. I believe that that passion, couple with his vast experience, will have a significant impact on the quality of life of Shimer students.”
