Shimer Launches Online Alumni Community

Shimer has launched an online Shimer Alumni Community, alumni.shimer.edu. The online community is an interactive, informational, and networking site that will help alumni stay informed about Shimer news and events, as well as enjoy connections with former classmates and friends.



There is a vast array of features for alumni to use.

•    Create your own personal profile, sharing only the information you wish to make public;
•    Search for former classmates and friends;
•    Read about campus news and events;
•    Learn about ways to volunteer, including contacting admitted students in your area;
•    Participate in an online discussion;
•    Purchase Shimer merchandise; and
•    Much more.

“Given the skyrocketing use of social networking worldwide, the Shimer Alumni Community offers our alumni a way to find and converse with each other and renew their bond to the College,” said Shimer’s Director of Alumni Relations Aaron Garland.  “With alumni a critical part of Shimer’s outreach, recruitment and support, fostering a way for them to electronically connect and reenergize their relationship with Shimer will help us grow and flourish.”

Development of the site started in the fall and was made possible in part by Title III grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education. As the site moves on Shimer is looking for alumni input to help shape the site and future enhancements to the online Shimer Alumni Community.
