President Susan Henking announced on Wednesday, August 22 that James Bowers will be joining Shimer's Admission staff as Associate Director of Admission.
James
Bowers worked as Associate Director of Admission in the Duke University
School of Law before earning his JD there. He subsequently practiced
law as a litigation associate for seven years, leaving the firm of
Hughes Hubbard & Reed in New York City to return to the profession
of college admission.
Rebecca
Sundin, Shimer Board member and Chair of the Admission Committee,
writes in an email, “We are so happy to welcome James to the Shimer
community. He has an interesting and diverse background that will serve
the admissions office well.”
Elaine
Vincent, Admission Director at Shimer College, concurs: “To say I'm
thrilled that James is joining us is actually an understatement. I
believe he is a great fit in every way: he will enjoy Shimer and will
learn from everyone here. We'll also learn from him; his life and
professional experience are a much needed addition to the community.”
Susan joins Rebecca, Elaine, and the entire Shimer community in warmly
welcoming James to Shimer College. In her email announcement to all Shimer constituents, Susan remarked that James' arrival at Shimer reflects the
central role of admission and retention for Shimer's future.
Susan also extended her thanks to the Shimer Board of Trustees for its generous contributions toward underwriting this strategic position.
