 Announcing Shimer Volunteer Days! On Friday, July 22, 9am - 4pm and Saturday, July 23, 10am - 4pm we are inviting alumni, students, parents, staff, faculty, & friends to help us with a variety of projects as Shimer prepares for the upcoming academic year. Lunch will be provided both days.
Projects around the College will include those requiring various skills, interests, and abilities including organizing, inventory, cleaning and moving of furniture.
If you would like to volunteer please contact Aaron Garland at a.garland@shimer.edu. Please include the day/times you are able to volunteer, and if you have any special interests or skills you think may be valuable please let us know.

P.S. There is another way to help. You may have items around your home taking up room in your garage or closet, or maybe you are moving and want to consolidate items. The Student Life Office has created a wish list of various household and office supplies that could be used at Shimer, including:
- 2 four-drawer letter size file cabinets (preferably with locking key)
- Coffee Maker for up to 12 cups
- Small portable CD player
- Two "nice" glass punch bowls
- Kitchen dish towels
- Hanging Clothes Rack - stationary or rolling - which could be used with special events
- Garment/Dry Cleaning Bags that are full-size to put over graduation gowns
- 200 plastic coat hangers (wire could also be acceptable)
- Shelving units (adjustable shelving desirable), either metal or plastic
- Self-Standing dividing wall/partition (12 - 16 feet) - preferably fabric covered
- End Rolls of newsprint for banner/poster making
- Assorted sizes of coverable plastic food storage containers
- Plates, cups, glasses, dishes (china or plastic)
- 30 - 40 Letter and Legal Size Banker Boxes for various storage projects
- 10 plastic storage containers with lids (banker box size and larger)
- Four stanchions with connecting ropes
- Glass front display cases (preferably locking)
- Hanging plastic brochure racks (assorted sizes)
- Several area rugs (darker colors which will hide stains, etc) - approx. 4/5' x 8')
- 3 six foot folding tables (traditional size)
- 2 six foot folding tables (half size width)
- Foam core and assorted matting materials for poster displays, etc.
- White, colored, and multicolored twinkle lights
- Seasonal holiday decorations
- Assorted serving dishes/platters
- Wall mounting dry erase boards (two medium and one larger)
