2010 Poetry Contest Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 2010 Shimer College Poetry Contest winners! The winners were announced during a community poetry reading, at which winners Naomi Neal ('13) and John Shaw ('13) shared their winning poems. Naomi's was a personal poem entitled, First Snow and John's a series of poetic anecdotes called Wisdom Teeth (In Memoriam). Honorable mentions went to Colleen Cerny ('10) for her poem entitled Strawberry Moon and Meg Nelson ('11) for Face. As part of the festivities, several other Shimerians shared their own poetry, or read famous poems that they enjoy.

The Shimer College Poetry Contest is sponsored by the Academy of American Poets. Cash prizes have been funded for over 30 years by an endowment by Shimer alum Peter Cooley ('62) who is a poet, as well as Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing at Tulane University.
